Imagine that special feeling. Life at its best. Your body, tired but happy after a day out walking in the countryside. The forest setting your thoughts free. A long spell out on the water. The feeling when the fish finally bite. The hunger when you face a challenge. And the sound when you hit that perfect strike on the first tee. The dust when you’ve hit a clay target. The joy you feel after a good day’s hunting. The feeling of well-being after scoring a culinary bull’s eye. Or the tranquillity that follows an intensive yoga session. And the feeling when your head finally hits the pillow. Serenity, silence, presence. Just being. Either on your own or with your loved ones. A feeling to come back to, again and again.
The old Adelsnäs manor was built on the peninsula in Lake Bysjön in the 1760s. In 1900 the building was moved across the lake and reconstructed as a horticultural school. It prospered until 1950 when the school was shut down.
Seven years later, the first nine holes of Åtvidaberg golf course were completed and the old school building was opened as a hotel, which at the time was called the Trädgårdshotellet. Since then, the hotel has undergone several refurbishments and the biggest change resulted in today’s Villa Baro, which was completed in 2020. That was when the new wing was also opened, which has everything from hotel rooms and a lounge to a yoga studio and hunting room. This is where history and the present day meet in the same travel destination – a special place that provides an infinite number of experiences.
The feeling you get is that Åtvidaberg has everything, being just as close to a city as it is to the coast. On the one hand it’s just over 30 kilometres from Linköping, and on the other hand it has the countryside in the form of an oak landscape, lakes and thick forests. The town has a proud history as a manufacturing and industry community. And there’s also something for the sports enthusiast – the long-established Kopparvallen stadium, Åtvidaberg FF’s home ground, is located right next to the Adelswärdska Villa. This is a place that evokes team spirit and feelings, just the same as you get at Villa Baro.
